Westwoodside is part of Haxey parish and is situated on the Western boundary of the Isle of Axholme. Within the village are areas that  were once hamlets and had their own  distinctive identity, such as Park, Upperthorpe, Newbigg, Commonside and Nethergate, at one time there were four active Methodist chapel’s in the village, Primitive Methodist, Ebenezer Methodist New Connection, Bethel Primitive Methodist and Wesley Methodist.
